Protestors showed up at Senator Cory Gardner’s office in Colorado Springs, Colorado to dissuade the freshman senator from voting in favor of Trumpcare. They came dressed as “handmaids,” inspired by the 1984 book by Margaret Atwood turned critically acclaimed Hulu series, “The Handmaid’s Tale,” in which women are openly treated as second-class citizens.
While protestors showed up in full frocks and bonnets, Gardner’s office went as far as not letting the women – and a child – open the door to cool the room down. It was 92 degrees in Colorado Springs today.

We've been here over 5 hours and haven't heard a phone ring once so they obviously have the phones turned off. @SenCoryGardner #NoAHCA

Gardner is among the 13 Republican Senators charged with shaping the new healthcare bill, even though Gardner himself contended that he hadn’t seen the full text of the bill until last Thursday. Yet his position as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee gives him easy access to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who headed efforts to write Trumpcare.
Gardner’s cruel treatment of his own constituents is almost fitting in this scenario; a man who could bring himself to write a bill that would strip healthcare from 22 million Americans should have no problem keeping women and children in an office with no fresh air on a 92-degree summer day.
